Jaimie's path toward healing appeared early, in a local emergency room, at a family member's side. She watched the clinical team move with precision and purpose, then helped with the daily wound care that followed. It was her first lesson in how people mend.
She went on to practice emergency nursing in downtown Chicago and beyond for more than a decade. Along the way she earned graduate training in evidence-based practice, leadership, and quality improvement. Moved by Donald Miller's A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, she chose a larger story and began a new chapter in Texas.
In Dallas she found her way to horses, first as a volunteer in equine-assisted services, and soon to reining. With her own income and a willingness to knock on unfamiliar doors, she bought her mare, Bella, and entered a new sport with entirely different rules. She has since competed and earned paychecks in entry-level classes.
Beneath it all was the internal work: learning to stay regulated enough to be a true partner to her horse, rather than riding in order to regulate. Journaling, meditation, breathwork, and tools informed by CBT and DBT became her daily practice.
From creative practices, a lifelong devotion to care, and a willingness to be guided, Reining in the Moonlight took root. The Equestrian Journal is its first offering: a beautiful way to integrate what happens in the saddle with who you are becoming beyond it.
